We asked some of our 'Power Users'
how they got involved in music and how they use FL Studio.

Tell us about how you got into music ?

My name is Nemanja Brenjo and I produce music under the artist alias "PIXL". I got into music at a very young age with my parents and family always taking me along with them to venues with live music, it was only until recently when a friend introduced me to FL Studio that I discovered how incredibly complex music actually was and how fun it was to be part of that world and to connect with others through music.

The more I learnt about music and production, the more I dedicated myself to trying to master each element.

Tell us about your sound and how does FL Studio helps you achieve it?

My "sound" would have to be a fusion between Progressive House and Electro, although I have done many different styles of music I would have to say that those would have to define my approach when producing any music.

I absolutely love the atmosphere and structure of Progressive House, with it constantly building up and adding new elements in and the euphoric chord progressions and melodies and I think with Electro you also have a lot of progressing elements within basslines and counter melodies that really work well together.

FL Studio allows me to really easily write chord progressions and melodies in the piano roll and quickly chop/arrange them in the playlist, the piano roll also has so many rad features that assist you when you have a lot of elements like the "ghost channel" mode and also stuff like the "Riff Machine" to really quickly be able to quickly throw in some midi data and adjust parameters to quickly give you some new fresh ideas.

The mixer is also really quick and easy to navigate through, with things like colour coding to the easily assignable channels/sends/bus channels etc, with it always being very simple to understand what it is doing to your sounds.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

I was introduced to my first DAW of course being FL Studio during college whilst studying Architecture, it really started out as just a bit of fun and next thing I knew i spent every second i got whether it be after tests, in lectures and at home working away making the weirdest sounds ever and teaching myself to understand from what MIDI is to arranging/mixing and sound design.

What I loved the most was how intuitive the UI on FL Studio was and the ease of using the piano roll to quickly get any idea down in seconds and manipulate it however way you want, it was also very visual which was definitely one of the biggest selling points for me.

The other feature that I love and spend the most time in is the Playlist, it honestly feels like a blank canvas which you fill in and you can in real time see how each sample/synth/automation is working which is crucial to my current workflow.

Tell us about your production environment & toys?

My current studio setup consists primarily of FL Studio and software synths and a pair of Event Opals. In all honesty there's not much more that I actually need as the DAW and synths give me everything I'd ever need in one place and are very convenient rather than photographing/writing down analog presets, although in saying that I do have a few toys which i absolutely love and always come back to and those being my Moog Little Phatty and the Nord lead 2x rack mount.
