ALEXSO
ALEXSO Despite being such a large country, Chinese EDM artists often have difficulty breaking through globally. ALEXSO is seeking to change that, and appears to be on the right track, having been named one of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs in 2021. One of our many longtime users, ALEXSO, first picked up FL Studio in 2001 and has been creating music with our DAW ever since. We’re pleased to welcome him as a Power User and look forward to seeing what more is to come from him. ALEXSO Promo Video Tell us about yourself and how you got into music. I started exploring DJing in China in 1997 and have been doing it professionally ever since. In 2000, I developed a keen interest in electronic music production. However, at that time, I wasn’t sure what tools to use to achieve the sounds I wanted. How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions? I started using FL Studio in 2001. Back then, the software wasn’t very advanced and felt more like a drum machine. I began experimenting with it, and around 2002 or 2003, FL Studio released an update that included a playlist and some synthesizers. My English was quite poor at the time, so I had to figure out how to use the software with its all-English interface, learning its features bit by bit and starting to create music. My early works were quite terrible, but I kept learning and creating. I’ve been using FL Studio for over twenty years now. To me, FL Studio is an incredibly efficient and powerful production tool. Although I’ve explored other DAWs, all of my work, 100%, has been produced using FL Studio. Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with. I have collaborated with several well-known Chinese singers on EDM music, including Jane Zhang, Wowkie Zhang, and the group Teens in Times (TNT). These artists are among the most renowned musicians, singers, and idol groups in China. |

I carry all my equipment with me, which includes the RME Digiface USB, RME ADI-2 Pro, Genelec 8351 speakers, and more. ALEXSO’S Studio Setup What is your top FL Studio tip for up-and-coming producers? FL Studio has developed into a very powerful and complex application that can meet the needs of various music production styles. However, beginners shouldn’t worry, as the software is very user-friendly. Remember to start by learning the most basic and essential features. As you learn new things, quickly apply them to your projects to get immediate positive feedback. There is a wealth of knowledge shared online about FL Studio, so no matter what questions you have, you can always find answers in online communities. Is there anything else you would like to tell us? There is a huge potential user base for FL Studio in China. I am fully committed to music production education and promoting FL Studio. I hope more Chinese musicians can use FL Studio to create better music. I also hope Image Line will optimize the software and language interface to better cater to the large number of Chinese users.
