Crivas

Crivas is a composer, sound designer, mixing engineer, and music producer from the Dominican Republic who is best known for his work in Reggaeton and for his popular YouTube channel, where he features FL Studio in nearly every video. We’ve been fans of his for a long time and thought we would check in to learn more about his career and production techniques.

Tell us about yourself and how you got into music.

I got into music by chance when a friend of mine started rapping in front of me back in early 2000. I realized that it was easier for me and started doing it with him. After that, I decided to record the lyrics I was writing with him, then got into making my own beats using FL Studio 2.5 to record my own music.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

A friend of mine had FL Studio and told me about it. I remember just creating a simple loop with one pattern and letting it play for minutes while rapping on top of it because I didn’t know how to make a full song. Obviously, I got better over time and have been using FL Studio ever since. I make every beat on FL Studio and use it almost every day.

Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with.

Back in 2008, I realized there were almost no videos online explaining FL Studio in Spanish, so I decided to make my own videos teaching people how to use it. I got a bit of recognition for this and kept doing it over the years. These days, I still create videos teaching people how to make beats on FL Studio and work with top artists in my industry like Arcangel, Rauw Alejandro, Nicky Jam, Farruko, Jay Wheeler, Randy Nota Loca, and others.

Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use.

In 2019, I decided to sell all my studio gear and bet on what I consider the future of music production, a mobile studio. So as of today, I work on my laptop, an audio interface, a nice pair of headphones, a mini controller, and my DAW with plugins. With this setup, I can work wherever I want whenever I want.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

I really think FL Studio has opened the doors to many producers in the world, making it possible to create the music they dream up of with so much ease. I can tell you that more than 90% of the genre I produce (Reggaeton) was produced thanks to FL Studio. Almost every person that I know who makes Reggaeton started on or is using FL Studio to make their beats.
