Diego Ave is a 2x Grammy-winning, 11x platinum-selling American producer who seems to have worked with everyone at this point. You can hear his production on tracks from artists like Future, 21 Savage, Post Malone, The Game, Lil Baby, and countless others. Our friends at Novation have also featured some behind-the-scenes footage with him for the launch of the FLkey, and we loved seeing his process and how this amazing MIDI keyboard/controller fits into his workflow. Read on to learn more about his background and experience. Tell us about yourself and how you got into music. My name is Diego Ave and I am a music producer from Miami, FL. I got into music and producing after I started working as an audio engineer at a recording studio. Engineering helped me grow my network. I eventually quit and started pursuing music production full-time. FL STUDIO Signature Sound | Diego Ave Producer Camp How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions? FL Studio was the first DAW I picked up. It seemed easy enough to understand for me when I was a kid. FL Studio can be as simple as you want it to be or intricate and complex. With FL Studio I am able to create my ideas fast before I forget them. The drum programming specifically helps me use different grooves every time I create. The best part is the sound you get from FL. The output from the master has a distinct sound the more you push it. The color it gives my beats is what keeps me using this program. |
In the Studio with Diego Ave // Novation (FLkey) Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with. My beats are known for having a distinct sound selection and hard-hitting 808s. My sound has brought me to work with artists like Future, Lil Baby, Post Malone, 21 Savage, Lil Durk, King Von, Polo G, Trippy Redd, and so many more! I am currently 11x platinum and have been nominated for 3 Grammys, winning 2 of them. Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use. My studio where I make all my records is acoustically treated to contain the frequencies. I like using Yamaha NS-10s to check the mix of my beats. I also use Focal monitors to start my ideas. For vocals, I usually use a Neumann U87 microphone but I sometimes will have a Sony C800 as well. I use FL Studio on my Mac laptop with an FLkey MIDI controller attached.
