Hopsin – Alone With Me

Tell us about yourself and how you got into music.

I got into music when I was around 3 years old when my parents gifted me a keyboard. I’ve always had an interest in music since I was a little kid, learning to play music by ear and I always knew when I got older I wanted to compose music.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

When I was in the 10th grade, my friend introduced me to FL Studio, which he had on a floppy disk, and told me I could make beats with that program. I installed it once I got home and was hooked right away. Since then, I have been using FL Studio every day for the past 24 years.

It’s everything to my productions — every song and album I have ever created has been produced on FL Studio.

Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with.

My music is very self-reflective. I use FL Studio to bring to life all the ideas I have in my head before adding lyrics. I pour my life into my music, and I’m lucky enough to have a fan base that supports that.

Some of the artists I’ve collaborated with are NF, Tech N9ne, and B.o.B.

Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use.

My studio is in my home for ease of access. My microphone is a Neumann U87, which runs through an Avalon preamp, going to an 1176 compressor, which also runs through my Tube-Tech compressor. I also use a Lynx Hilo interface which plays through two Yamaha speakers. Additionally, I have two keyboards — a Kontakt and a Korg.

What is your top FL Studio tip for up-and-coming producers?

Make sure you EQ each sound as you add it into your composition and monitor your master track levels to make sure you’re not clipping — it will help you a ton when it’s time to mix and/or export.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

I’m a die-hard FL studio fan, and I will never switch to any other DAW.
