Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, Grammy-nominated producer Iotosh has made waves in the Reggae and Dancehall scenes with several hit songs and high-profile collaborations. We learned that he uses FL Studio for all his productions and enjoyed catching up with him recently.

Tell us about yourself and how you got into music.

I am Iotosh, a record producer, recording artiste, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist from Kingston, Jamaica. I got into music after my mom bought me a Casio keyboard when I was nine. I started fooling around and recording ideas on it.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

I started using FL Studio when I was in high school. A classmate of mine was talking about making beats with FruityLoops, which FL was called at the time, and at that point, I was still just making music ideas on that Casio keyboard. So I went home later that day and downloaded the demo version just to try it out. I’ve been using it ever since.

FL Studio is invaluable to my productions. I use FL Studio to do almost everything: making beats, recording vocals & instruments, mixing & even mastering in the software. It’s the most powerful tool at my disposal.

Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with.

Most of the music I’ve worked on is based within the Reggae/Dancehall genre, but it also blends other sounds like Hip-Hop/Rap, Trap, RnB, Jazz, and Pop together. I’ve worked with the likes of Koffee, Protoje, Chronixx, Jesse Royal, Vybz Kartel, Jah9, and Kyraxx – just to name a few. I’ve been releasing music as an artiste as well.

Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use.

Most of my work is done from my living room setup. I’ll go to the studio for the final recording or finalizing of a song. The gear I use includes an Arturia Audiofuse Studio interface, iLoud Micro Monitor speakers, Blue Yeti Pro mic for demo vocals, AudioTechnica ATH-M30x headphones, Native Instruments Maschine Mikro MK3 (that I won in one of their competitions!) & Komplete M32 MIDI controller, M-Audio AxiomPro49 MIDI controller, Yamaha PSR-R323 keyboard and my bass & electric guitars.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

FL Studio is the catalyst for my music career and changed my life forever. Simply an amazing program.
