Joey Dale

During the global EDM craze of the early/mid-2010s, Dutch producer Joey Dale quickly became a rising star. Releasing hit tracks with EDM legends like Hardwell, DVBBS, Alvaro, and others, Joey found himself playing big stages and drawing a wide audience. With many releases on EDM label powerhouses Revealed Recordings, Spinnin’ Records, and others, Joey’s music has taken him to the pinnacle of the Dance Music world. After a hiatus from releasing music, he’s now back for more, and we’re excited to add him as an official FL Studio Power User (long overdue).

DVBBS & Joey Dale – Deja Vu (ft. Delora)

Tell us about yourself and how you got into music.

My name is Joey. I have been making music since 2008 and started releasing in 2013, which is when my career really started. I was already messing around with FL for some years when I first heard ‘House Music’. It became really popular in The Netherlands because of artists like Vato Gonzalez, Hardwell, Chuckie, Afrojack, etc. I loved the simplicity and effectiveness of the beats. Everywhere we went, people were dancing to it, and I knew I wanted to create the same kind of music.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

My cousin downloaded FL Studio back in 2007. I think he saw Soulja Boy using it for his song “Crank Dat”. He showed me what you could do with it, and I instantly fell in love with it. I was a big Hip Hop fan in those days, and I really looked up to Scott Storch. My first ‘production’ was actually a remake of “Lean Back” by Fat Joe, and later, I attempted a remake of “So Sick” by Ne-Yo, haha. The funny thing is I only had a demo version, so I couldn’t reopen saved projects, so each time I made something cool, I made a screenshot to remember what I did in the patterns, haha.

Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with.

I love to experiment and create a lot of styles, but my main genre is Dance, House, Pop, and everything in between. I signed my first big releases back in 2013 with Alvaro on Spinnin’ Records, and a few months later my breakout hit “Arcadia” together with my idol Hardwell. That same year I released “Deja Vu” with Canadian duo DVBBS on Spinnin’ Records. I released most of my music on Revealed Recordings during those years. After taking a break from releasing music for a few years, I am back in full effect with my own imprint, Soul Victory Records, where I will release all my music independently.

Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use.

I love to work from home, in the environment I feel most comfortable. Right now I just use my MacBook Pro M1 and FL Studio for macOS.

What is your top FL Studio tip for up-and-coming producers?

Experiment, practice, recreate, and practice more! Find out what you really desire to create and stick to that vision. Don’t wait for any label or agency to find out what direction you want to go. Stick to YOUR vision.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

I feel extremely honored to be named a Power User of FL Studio in the company of some of the biggest names in the music industry.
