John Lam
John Lam Florida-born Vietnamese American producer John Lam has carved out a distinctive style in modern hip-hop. Having multiple platinum records and being a preferred collaborator of Lil Durk, he’s certainly made significant waves in a relatively short period of time. Although he originally used a different DAW (we won’t hold it against him), he’s an avid FL Studio user and we’re pleased to welcome him to our Power User list. Learn more about his story below. Lil Durk – Barbarian (prod. by John Lam) Tell us about yourself and how you got into music. I’m John Lam, aka Pull Up Lam. I’m a Vietnamese American producer from St. Petersburg, Florida. I played a few instruments growing up, and then eventually was introduced to music production. How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions? I started using FL Studio when I moved to Atlanta. I originally used another DAW when I started, but once I switched over to FL Studio, the rest was history. FL Studio allows me to work quickly and efficiently. I’m able to construct all my ideas with ease. Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with. I’ve experienced a lot of my success working with Lil Durk. It has opened many opportunities and helped me perfect my craft. I’ve also worked with Rod Wave, King Von, Lil Keed, Hunxho, and many more. |

As long as I have my laptop, headphones, and FL Studio, I can make beats anywhere. John Lam in the Studio What is your top FL Studio tip for up-and-coming producers? Learn all your shortcuts — it saves time during the production process. For all the producers who like chopping and flipping old samples, the stem extraction tool is very useful.
