Lonestarrmuzik

As of this writing, Lonestarrmuzik’s latest achievement is his GRAMMY win for his work on Rapsody and Erykah Badu’s record 3:AM, but that was hardly the start of his illustrious career. The American producer has worked with plenty of other stars in Hip Hop, from Eminem, to Lil Xan and more, showcasing his talent and versatility. Having worked with FL Studio for more than two decades, it only feels right to feature him as an official FL Studio Power User. Learn more about his story below.

Tell us about yourself and how you got into music.

My name is Lonestarrmuzik, and I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. I fell in love with the art of music at a young age — I had access to endless amounts of music in my household. My mom collected tons of CDs, and my stepfather was a DJ.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

My cousin introduced me to FL Studio around 2001 — I believe the version I started on was FL3. It had a demo of Aaliyah and Timbaland’s “Try Again”. I used to study that FLP like crazy! FL Studio is such an amazing tool. I’m still learning new things using it to this day.

Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with great artists, such as Eminem on “Kamikaze” and “Music to Be Murdered By Side B” with my mentor/collaborator Symbolyc One. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with Dreamville on the Creed 3 soundtrack with Ari Lennox and Omen. I’ve had the opportunity to work with former TDE artist, Reason, and Masego on his self-titled album, and received my first GRAMMY working with Rapsody and Erykah Badu on their song “3:AM” alongside my mentor Symbolyc One and JeMarcus Bridges.

Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use.

I have a pretty simple work environment. I work at home — my setup that I am using to create is my MacBook Pro, a MIDI keyboard, and Yamaha monitors

What is your top FL Studio tip for up-and-coming producers?

If you want to achieve a more humanized feel rhythmically, mess around with the shift knob, under “miscellaneous functions” — especially on your hi-hats and snare drums. Also, if you want your drums to smack, there’s a boost knob under “pre-computed effects” — turn that up a little bit and your drums will cut through the mix like crazy. It’s a gem I learned from using the older version of FL Studio back when it was called the “amp knob”.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

Can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.
