Tell us about yourself and how you got into music?
Hi! I’m Owen Norton a DJ/ Producer from the UK! You may know me from my original releases ‘The Night’ and ‘Colours’, or my official remixes for Jason Derulo, The Chainsmokers and R3HAB. I’ve been producing music for around 7 years now, initially got into it as I had an interest in DJing, and wanted to take it to the next level by producing my own songs that I could play.
How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?
I remember seeing videos of producers online using FL Studio to produce their music, so I downloaded it and started playing around with it! Luckily I know my way around the software a lot more than I did at the start haha, and I’m able to work out an idea in no time. I really like how fast the piano roll is, making it really easy to draw in a melody I have in my head, and then I’ve built up my own preset and sample banks over the years that are easily accessible. FL Studio works really well for me, and I can’t ever see myself using any other DAW.
Tell us about your work and some of the artists you worked with?
So I just released my single ‘The Night’, which is a rework of the classic ‘Rhythm Of The Night’. I’m super happy with the reaction, it hit 50,000 streams on Spotify after just 3 days. Just before that I released ‘Colours’, and before that I released a ton of remixes, like ‘Take You Dancing’ for Jason Derulo, and ‘Wolves’ for Selena Gomez & Marshmello. In 2021 I have a ton more original release that I’m really excited to share, so make sure you follow me on Instagram and Spotify to be the first to hear!
Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use?
I’m producing at the moment on my MacBook Pro with Bootcamp. This works best for me as I can produce music when traveling, and also plug my laptop into my studio at home. My studio setup is super simplistic, just a pair of monitors and a computer setup, in a acoustically treated room, but that’s perfect because when I’m in there I can detach myself from the world and just focus on music. I love it!
