P.Priime

At a young age, P.Priime has already left an undeniable mark on the sound of contemporary Afrobeats. With a sharp ear for rhythm and a futuristic touch, the Lagos-born producer has crafted some of the genre’s biggest records, working with top-tier talent like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Fireboy DML, and Olamide. A trained instrumentalist with an instinct for innovation, P.Priime credits FL Studio as his creative playground—where chart-toppers like “Bandana” and “Anoti” came to life. We sat down with him to explore his creative journey, early inspirations, and what keeps him evolving at the top.

Tell us about yourself and how you got into music.

Growing up in a musical family surrounded by the sounds of the church choir, I naturally gravitated towards music. I started with drums and then piano, sax, and guitar followed. Although I thought I’d be composing an orchestra at some point, I started experimenting with beats and remaking songs, and that was the turning point that led me to music production.

What’s your favorite feature of FL Studio?

I got hooked on FL Studio early on, and the drum sequencer is still one of my favorite features. It’s amazing for crafting beats that knock hard.

Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with.

I’ve worked with some incredible artists, including Chris Brown, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake. And honestly, I make music that I’m passionate about, and that’s what shines through. I’m a music fan first, so I’m always working to push the boundaries of my sound.

Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use.

For me, it’s all about creating the right atmosphere. I like to set the vibe — sometimes I bring in friends to help get into the right headspace. My laptop’s my bread and butter, and I pair it with my Audio-Technica ATH-M70x headphones and AIAIAI speakers.
