Tell us about yourself and how you got into music.

I’m Sam Feldt, a Dutch DJ, producer, and entrepreneur with a deep passion for music that makes people feel good. My journey into music started at a young age, playing around with different instruments like the keyboards and software. The vibrant energy of house music, combined with its ability to bring people together, truly captivated me when I entered a club for the first time at age 17. It wasn’t long before I realized that creating music was my calling, leading me to pursue a career that combines my love for uplifting beats with meaningful interactions.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

My adventure with FL Studio began in the early days of my career, when I was very young and simply experimenting with it (I was making jumpstyle back then, haha). I was drawn to its intuitive design and the sheer power it offered in terms of production capabilities. FL Studio has been a game-changer for me, allowing me to translate the melodies in my head into full-fledged tracks. It’s the backbone of my productions, providing a canvas where I can experiment, create, and refine my sound.

Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work with an array of talented artists across the globe, from chart-toppers like Rita Ora and Kesha to incredible talents like Akon, Shaggy and Tones & I. Each collaboration has been a unique journey, blending different styles and influences to create music that resonates with a wide audience. These experiences have not only enriched my sound but also allowed me to forge lasting connections in the industry.

Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use.

My studio is my sanctuary, a place where creativity flows freely. I’ve equipped it with a range of gear that complements my workflow in FL Studio, from high-quality monitors to an array of MIDI controllers that give me tactile control over my productions. The centerpiece, of course, is my computer, where FL Studio runs the show, surrounded by synthesizers and effects processors that add color and texture to my tracks.

What is your top FL Studio tip for up-and-coming producers?

To up-and-coming producers, my top FL Studio tip is to explore and utilize the power of automation. It’s a game-changer for adding dynamics and interest to your tracks. Automation allows you to breathe life into your productions, making them feel more organic and engaging. Don’t be afraid to experiment with automating different parameters, from filters and effects to volume and panning.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

If there’s one thing I’d like to share, it’s to never stop learning and experimenting. FL Studio is a powerhouse of a DAW, with endless possibilities. Dive deep into its features, watch tutorials, and most importantly, have fun with it.
