Steerner, Martell & William Ekh – Sparks ft. Corey Saxon Tell us about yourself and how you got into music. Hey! I’m Niklas Sterner, also known as “Steerner”. I was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. I’ve felt a strong connection to music since I was a child, but what really got me into making my own is a clip that I found on YouTube of Basshunter producing when I was a teenager. That’s when I realized it was possible to produce your own music at home with only the help of your computer as a tool, and I instantly felt the urge to try it out. The timing coincided with the popular era of House music back in 2010 when Tim Berg (Avicii) and Axwell came on the scene. They became some of my biggest inspirations and definitely kept me going!

Steerner – Home feat. Buster Moe (Performance Video) *check out the FL Studio cameo in the video!* How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions? It all started at the age of 15 when I found out about this program named FL Studio. As I mentioned, this happened at the same time I discovered Basshunter, who used FL Studio, which finally gave an answer to how I could make my own musical ideas a reality. It meant everything to me that FL Studio was such an easy-going DAW — it was able to spark my interest right from the start since I was able to experience results pretty quickly. Remember, workflow is key! Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with. I started out as an independent artist and released all of my music on my own. I even made most of the assets myself back then! I guess I just had to do it all, LOL! After a few releases, I got recognized by radio and artists who supported my music live, including idols of mine such as Avicii, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Nicky Romero. Thanks to this support, I got a great push from the very start. A few years later, a dream of mine came true when I signed with Universal Music, giving me the opportunity to remix songs for the likes of The Chainsmokers, ILLENIUM, and Miguel, to name a few. Steerner in the Studio Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use. My studio is based in central Stockholm where I have lots of great people around me, which definitely helps a lot! My equipment setup is pretty simple but really does the job for me – Genelec 8040 monitors, MacBook Pro, Arturia MIDI keyboard, FL Studio (of course!), and my beloved SSL Fusion – that’s it. Is there anything else you would like to tell us? |
