Tank God

Some producers burst onto the scene with a hit that changes everything—Tank God is one of them. The New York native skyrocketed to fame as the producer behind Post Malone’s chart-dominating single “Rockstar,” and he’s continued to shape the sound of hip-hop and trap with his signature melodic touch. A self-taught musician who found his creative stride with FL Studio, Tank God represents the spirit of today’s independent producer: bold, resourceful, and boundary-pushing. We caught up with him to talk about his journey, creative process, and what’s next.

Tell us about yourself and how you got into music.

I go by Tank God — I’m a GRAMMY-nominated, diamond-certified producer and songwriter from New York. My journey into music started in my adolescent years, at around 12 years old. I was always surrounded by it — from watching my cousin freestyle with friends to messing around on random software just trying to figure things out. I grew up in poverty, but music gave me purpose early on, and I’ve been locked in ever since.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

I started using FL Studio back in middle school. It was the first DAW I could really wrap my head around. I loved how hands-on it felt — the step sequencer, piano roll, and how fast I could get an idea down. FL Studio became my main weapon of choice. It’s the DAW I used to produce Post Malone’s “Rockstar,” and it’s still at the center of everything I create today. It’s more than just software — it’s part of my identity as a producer.

Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with.

My biggest record is “Rockstar” by Post Malone featuring 21 Savage, which went diamond and earned a GRAMMY nomination. Since then, I’ve worked with artists like A$AP Rocky, Nicky Jam, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, and more. I also dedicate time to developing upcoming talent, running my own producer competitions, and music communities through Twitch and Discord. It’s always been about pushing culture forward — whether through massive records or raw, grassroots energy.

Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use.

My main setup includes an Apollo interface, Augspurger monitors, Tube Tech, and a Neve. I have a few synths too, but my favorite is either the Mellotron or the Osmose. Everything runs through FL Studio — I love the workflow too much to switch. Whether I’m in a big studio or just on the go with headphones and a laptop, FL Studio gives me consistency and speed. FL Studio is also great for recording — I sometimes record vocals using my Sony C-800.

Tank God’s Studio

What is your top FL Studio tip for up-and-coming producers?

Don’t overthink. FL Studio is powerful, but its real strength is how quickly you can get your ideas down. Use that. Capture the feeling while it’s fresh, then refine later. Also — learn the shortcuts. The faster you can move, the more ideas you’ll be able to execute in the moment.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

FL Studio changed my life. I built my entire career using it, and I still find new ways to innovate with it every day. I’ve also been championing the next generation through my Twitch streams, Discord events, and live competitions — and FL Studio is at the center of all that. It’s only right we keep building together.
