We recently learned that Japanese producer Keitaro Ujiie, who goes by the aliases Ujico* and Snail’s House, is a longtime user of FL Studio. On his YouTube which is filled with his unique, upbeat electronic songs, he’s racked up more than 1 million subscribers and more than 230 million views. His performance on music platforms such as Spotify is no slouch either. We found his music and branding fascinating, and thought we would get to know him a bit better. Read our interview with him below!

Tell us about yourself and how you got into music.

I initially started making music when I was 11. My dad played guitar and collected music, so I listened to Classical, Jazz, Funk, and Bossanova, and artists like Sly and the Family Stone, Ono Lisa, Ravel Marler, and Hiromi Uehara. One day I was listening to Hiromi’s music and it got me so inspired to make music and play it myself, so I started playing piano.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

FL Studio was recommended by one of my friends at the time, I think it was 2012 or 2013. FL Studio means everything to me in terms of production now, since I rely hard on many, many MIDI notes.

Tell us about your work and some of the artists you have worked with.

Some of my most popular works include “Pixel Galaxy” and “Hot Milk” and I’ve worked with Gen Hoshino, Moe Shop, Panda Eyes, and others.

Tell us about your production environment and the gear you use.

I use a Windows PC and occasionally use some hardware for samples, like the Moog DFAM, YAMAHA Reface CS, and the Make Noise 0-Coast. As of 2021, I also use an Antelope Discrete 8 Synergy Core interface, beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro headphones, and Barefoot Sound MicroMain 45 monitors.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

I’m excited to be part of this community!
