When we were sent a cool animated music video (shown right) we were transported to earlier days spent in front of the TV, to a time when digital watches were still cool. Intrigued we wanted to know more about the music producer simply known by his last name 'Walden' and how he came to be using FL Studio...
Tell us about how you got into music ?
I was born and raised in Australia and I got into music production through a school excursion to the Power House Museum here in Sydney when i was about 11 years old! Since then i have used other programs until when at 14, i decided to purchase FL Studio. Shortly after i began producing with FL under the name 'Walden'
How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?
I had previously heard about the program from other producers on a forum, and after seeing that it got some very good feedback, i decided to try it. The first version that i got was FL 8. At first it took me a little bit of time to get into FL, but once i started getting used to the program, well lets just say that I've never looked back!
It's such a powerful and flexible program, and I've never felt limited by any of its features. My favourite aspects of FL is the way that you can organise and re-arrange your mixer channels. The pattern feature is amazingly useful also for getting quick beat/rhythmic ideas.
My other favourite features are the plugins: Maximus is and always has been my go to plugin for compression, sound colouring and in general adding that extra 'phatness' to my percussive and synth layers. I am also a big fan of the synth plugins - ESPECIALLY Hamor, Harmless and Poizone - i use then for almost all of my melodic instruments - ranging from the basslines to chords to leads, arps and sometimes even FX!. The pitch bending feature in the Piano Roll is extremely useful. There are too many awesome features to list.
Tell us about your production environment & toys ?
I'm currently setup in my room downstairs - it's just myself, my laptop and my VXT8 speakers and of course... FL Studio! yes i know, its very minimalistic, which seems to be the thing these days anyway.
