Tell us about yourselves and how you got into music?
I've been deejaying for 10 years before going into production. I was mixing Detroit techno, house music, drum'n bass, hip hop beats... I've never been a musician. I've learned production with a friend and two Akai S900 samplers. Our workflow was slow and we were very limited. A very nice way to learn. Now I produce mostly beats.
I've been producing for many turntablists around the world, such as Netik, Unkut, Rafik, Kentaro, Troubl', 9 O'Clock, LigOne, COMA, Skillz... 4 of them got a DMC world title using my production. Many got the second place, a lot of them are national champions.
I also release some tracks and remixes and I signed on Ninja tunes, Peace Off, Plasmapool... I have produced above 20 scratch tools in the past years, the last one was released by Thud Rumble (DJ Q Bert's label) in collaboration with Traktor.
How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?
My brother gave me his old computer (with a very bad sound card). He had Fruity loops (version 4 I think) installed. So I've tried. I made a beat. This first beat was released 2 years later on my first vinyl "Doll's Break".
FL Studio is the best daw for my workflow. When I started to use it, it was considered as a beginner tool, absolutely not professional. But all my records, all my productions, everything was made with FL. The first thing I bought was a FL licence.
I can say that the piano roll and the FL sampler (amazing tool!) changed my life émoticône smile The sampler makes everything so easy, I love the portamento, the filters, it makes me work FAST.
How many clients or producers were blown aways when they asked me which DAW I was using.
I work better since a few month, my sound is bigger, deeper and more precise than what I actualy released. Some things changed (analog gear) but the DAW is still the same.
I do all my mix-downs and masterings with FL Studio.
Tell us about your production environment & toys?
For years I had only a computer, no sound card, no controller. Only one monitor. I like simple things.
But everything changed. I have a real professional studio now. I am using some PSI A21M monitors with a Dangerous Source converter connected to an internal RME sound card.
I use hardware EQs and compressors (API, A-Designs, FCS, DREIST...), analog summing, microphones (Telefunken AR-51, Shure SM7b...), analog distortion. I do not use a lots of plugins but I use a lot the MAAG EQ4 plugin at the moment.
Most of the time I use the native Fruity Loops Plugins, which are easy, complete and totally incorporated to the use of my analog gear.
My main controller now is an Arturia Keylab 88. I have a few PADs too.
"I found the demo while searching on the internet for a program that I could create drumloops with. I ended up finding FL studio and have been hooked ever since. It is more addictive than crack (not that I have tried that)."
"... stumbled across FL while surfing. I tried it and immediately Loved it. I was still into hardware at the time but slowly over the last few years have transferred my work to PC exclusively with FLS."
