Groove Machine Synth (GMS)

Groove Machine Synth is a multitimbral hybrid synthesizer based on the FL Studio Plugin of the same name.

To load/save presets tap the menu icon (upper right) and choose Presets List. You can download and share presets on the GMS Presets Thread.

Parameters

Groove Machine Synth has a dual-oscillator architecture. It can operate in Subtractive, FM, RM and Sync modes, making it the most flexible and powerful Synthesizer in FL Studio Mobile.

  • FILTER

    • Cutoff - Channel global filter cutoff frequency.
    • Res - Resonance.
    • Attack - Time taken to reach the filter cutoff value (the envelope will start from a minimum cutoff).
    • Decay - Time taken to return to a minimum cutoff value after key release.
    • Amount - Peak cutoff frequency reached.
    • Kbd - Keyboard tracking. The filter cutoff will track up and down with the note played. Higher notes having a higher cutoff frequency etc.
    • Kind (filter) - Switch between LP 12 (Low Pass, gentle curve 12 dB/Octave), LP 24 (Low Pass, steep curve 24 dB / Octave) & HP (HighPass).
  • OSCILLATOR - There are 2 independent oscillators. Many controls adjust B relative to A.

    • A / B (Oscillator waveshape) - Click to select from predefined shapes or load waveforms from the library. While we could try to explain in detail the shapes, there are a lot and it is expected you choose based on sound. You should notice, however, the classic Square, Saw, Sine waveforms.
    • Pitch B - Pitch of Oscillator B relative to Oscillator A, change in semitones.
    • Fine B - Pitch of Oscillator B relative to Oscillator A, change in cents.
    • Phase B - Phase of the waveform from Oscillator B.
    • Balance - Oscillator A vs B levels.
    • Noise - Noise source (hiss).
  • MODULATION - Use this to change the interaction between Oscillator A and B. You can change the Synthesis type here.

    • Amount - Amount of Sync (additive blend), FM (Frequency Modulation / pitch) or RM (Ring Modulation / volume).
    • Kind - Type of modulation between Oscillator B to A. Choose Sync (blend), FM (Frequency Modulation / pitch) or RM (Ring Modulation / volume)
    • Attack - Envelope of Oscillator B > A influence.
    • Decay - Envelope of Oscillator B > A influence.
    • Contour - Peak value or Oscillator B > A influence.
    • MW Dest - Target parameter for envelope Mod Wheel (on the Keyboard). Choose Filter. LFO. Oscillator Modulation.
    • PB Range - Envelope range. Choose 1, 2, 7 or 12 (Oct) Semitones.
    • MW Amount - Amount of Modulation Wheel applied to the Mod Wheel Destination.
  • LEVEL - Main volume and panning controls.

    • Level - Overall volume level.
    • Pan - Overall pan setting.
    • Attack - Time taken for the filter to reach the maximum level.
    • Decay - Time taken to go from the maximum level to the Sustain level.
    • Sustain - Level when the key is held.
    • Release - Time taken to fall from the Sustain level to zero when the key is released.
  • ENVELOPE GENERATOR - General purpose modulation envelope source that you can use to automate the available targets in GMS.

    • Contour - Envelope amount. At center there is no envelope applied. Increase it to add an envelope amount. Decrease it to add an envelope amount but in the opposite direction.
    • Attack - Time taken for the envelope to reach the maximum level.
    • Decay - Time taken to go from the maximum level to the Sustain level.
    • Sustain - Level when the key is held.
    • Release - Time taken to fall from the Sustain level to zero when the key is released.
    • Vel - Envelope amount increases for higher velocity notes.
    • Destination - Target parameter. Choose Filter, Oscillator modulation or Pitch.
  • LOW FREQUENCY OSCILLATOR - General purpose repeating waveform modulation source that you can use to automate the available targets in GMS.

    • Contour - LFO amount. At center there is no LFO applied. Increase it to add an LFO amount. Decrease it to add an LFO amount but in the opposite direction.
    • Shape - LFO shape. Sine, Saw or Square.
    • Destination - Target modulation parameter. Choose Filter, Oscillator or Pitch.
    • Rate - LFO speed synced to tempo.
  • VOICES - Oscillator voice effects.

    • Transpose - Transpose the pitch of the Oscillators in semitones.
    • Slide - Slide time.
    • Chorus Detune - Amount of detuning for the chorus effect.
    • Chorus Stereo - Stereo spread.
    • Mono - Monophonic voice mode (one note at a time, works well with slide notes).
    • Auto - Legato mode. A slide will only occur when you overlap more than one note..
    • Voices - Select 1 to 4 voices. 2 or more are required for the Chorus effect.
    • Scale - Spacing of notes in the Chorus. Flat (voices spaced around note pitch), Chord (voices spaced up 7 semitones/fifth), Octave (voices spaced up 12 semitones)..
  • FX - There are three identical Effects units in series 1 > 2 > 3. Each can be independently enabled/disabled with the switch on the lower left of the Module.

    • FX Kind - There are 10 effects these include:.
      • Dist - Distortion. X - Distortion amount. Y - Low pass filter cutoff frequency.
      • Flanger - Flanging. X - Depth. Y - Feedback.
      • Phaser - Phasing. X - Depth. Y - Feedback.
      • LPF - Low pass filtering. X - Low pass filter cutoff frequency. Y - Resonance amount.
      • HPF - High pass filtering. X - High pass filter cutoff frequency. Y - Resonance amount
      • Delay - Delay/Echo. X - Feedback amount (echo strength) Y - Echo filtering.
      • Reverb - Reverberation. X - Feedback. Y - Wet level (reverb amount).
      • Panner - Panning. X - Left/Right pan position. Y - Binaural effect level. Up/Down.

      • VOX filter - X - A special 'Formant filter' that simulates vowel sounds (A,E,I,O,U). Y - Throat size...of the human voice.
    • LFO Rate - Low Frequency Automation speed. Choose from 1/4 bar to 8 Bars.
    • Amount - LFO multiplier, from 0 to 100% (top).
    • LFO Shape - LFO waveform shape.
    • Modulation X/Y - Each effect has a pair of unique performance X / Y parameters as described above.
