Spreader

Spreader allows you to expand the stereo width of any source. As an alternative to Spacer, Spreader works particularly well with mono inputs, being capable of synthesizing a stereo field. Importantly, the stereo effect it creates is compatible with mono playback, without artifacts.

To load presets tap the 'Default' (upper right) and choose from the Presets List.

Parameters

  • Width - Move the slider up to expand the stereo width. When the slider is at the bottom, there is no change to the stereo width.
  • Low Bypass - Allows low frequencies to bypass the stereo effect. This can be important where the audio is bass oriented. Tighter and punchier bass is often achieved by keeping bass frequencies (below 100Hz) primarily mono. This ensures consistent low-end across different sound systems.

Display

  • Vectorscope - The sound 'flower' shows stereo width of the audio after passing through the Spreader effect. The wider the display the more stereo signal is present. For mono signals it will display a single petal (vertical when panned to center) or leaning to one side (L or R) when panned. For stereo signals the goal is normally to keep the 'flower' within the central sector delimited by the L and R 'safety' lines.
  • Balance - The dot running around the top of the Vectorscope is the balance indicator. It shows how the audio power is distributed between the Left and the Right channels (panning).
