Hi. I’m Tim van de Stadt, better known as Atmozfears, and I started my music career around 17 years ago, when my dad showed me one of the beta versions of ‘Father Abraham’s Drumcomputer’, which then led me onto a road of discovery towards making music electronically. After almost being forced to take singing and piano lessons since I was 6, this urge to make music myself developed naturally as time passed. I then stumbled upon FL Studio 4(?)… Skip ahead 5 years and I had my first release as atmozfears, which at that point in time, was still a trio. After developing our sound for a while and having spent some time in LA to learn from Joshua Dutrieux, the main man behind the big intro shows at ID&T & Q-dance at that time, I started my career as atmozfears, solo. Things skyrocketed for me after I played at Qlimax in 2014, premiering my biggest tune to date, ‘release’. And now, here we are!
Tell us about the transition from bedroom studio to playing in front of 30,000 people?
The feeling of finishing a song the day before you get to play an event like this is unimaginable. The faces of people hearing a melody for the first time is just out of this world. I feel like I put my soul into my productions and having people react to that in such a positive way is…well, better than sliced bread.
How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?
It’s the fastest way from my brain towards actual sounds. There’s nothing that comes close to FL. I’m pretty able to guide myself around in other DAW’s, as working together with other artist requires, but in my opinion, there’s nothing as fluent as the experience FL Studio gives me. I owe everything I have done so far to this program and I’m sure this relationship won’t change until death does us part.
Tell us about your production environment & toys?
I have a studio in my back yard, custom-built, and I’m somewhat of a synth geek. The Access Virus range is unmissable for a hardstyle producer, and I’m the proud owner of the Virus TI2, B and C. Other than that, I’m happy to have a Yamaha AN1x, Roland JP8080, Waldorf Kyra & Nord Lead 2 to my disposal, all being fed into my Apollo. This, combined with FL, provide me with the ability to stand out, do my own thing, and be as creative as I can be.
