Just a Gent
Tell us about yourself and how you got into music? Hey, my name is Jacob and I make music that makes me happy. When I was 8 years old I won a music production software out of a cereal box and went hard on my windows 98 PC making hip hop beats out of the premade loops and vocal samples. As I got older I decided to take it a little more seriously and so I bought the fruity edition of FL studio and finally started making my own sounds. After 6 years and 4 different aliases I created the Just A Gent project. Tell us your favorite plugins ? My all time favorite plugin is Harmor. It is such a powerful synth and there is nothing else that comes close to the different possibilities it can create. I also could not live without Vocodex. I use Vocodex for all sorts of things from vocoding vocals and basslines to making drums loops sound like they are from another planet.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions? FL studio was the real beginning for me. Before FL nothing sounded the way I wanted it to sound and I couldn’t figure how to use all these different techniques the pros were using, it just changed everything when I opened FL and I seen the sequencer. It literally means everything to my productions as I can work in it like no other DAW. Like alot of other producers my favorite thing about FL is just how fast you can get things down. You don’t have to worry about neatly placing each sound in their own tracks in the playlist, you can just throw it wherever, its great. Tell us about your production environment & toys? My setup is quite basic. I use 100% digital so none of my synths or effects are external. I am currently located in the room above my parents garage and the room is huge so there is heaps of room to have guitars and amps and mic stands around the place but the sound bounces everywhere. I have a pair Yamaha HS7s and a 10inch sub that I use occasionally for referencing. I still use my Zenheiser HD 280 pros and for my midi keyboard I have a Behringer Xu-Control. I have a mouse that I accidentally stole from school when I was 13 and my favorite keyboard of all time the daskkeyboard ultimate all running into a PC I built way to long ago.
