Madeon

We first noticed Madeon when he entered one of our remix competitions. It was immediately clear, from his fresh sound, that Madeon was destined for greater things. So we immediately put Madeon on the FL Studio alpha testing team so, hopefully, some of his magic might rub off on FL Studio. Since then Madeon’s career has been one, steadily accelerating, upward curve. So before he gets SO famous we had to interview his manager (or body guard), we asked Madeon to answer a few questions:

I produce under the name Madeon. I’m a french producer of electronic music. My music is an attempt at combining a contemporary electronic production style and the emotional appeal of pop music. Over the past couple of years I’ve released remixes (like my Deadmau5 – Raise Your Weapon remix) original tracks (I recently released my new single Icarus) and more experimental projects (my Pop Culture live mashup video).

How did you come to use FL Studio & what were your first impressions?

When i first got interested in music production, i played around with the demos of all the major DAWs of the time and FL Studio stood out as the most logical one. It really fitted my vision of what music creation should be, a free canvas as opposed to a linear approach. Over the years, i became familiar with the incredible depth of the software, I never feel like something isn’t achievable.

Tell us about your production environment & toys?

I don’t believe in the hardware or analog myth so my setup is extremely minimalistic and PC-centric. My studio is essentially a MIDI keyboard and a pair of speakers (M Audio BX8a Deluxe). On stage though, i’m a controller nerd !

I think the rise of the home studio as viable way to produce professional records is one of the most important evolution of modern music. The combination of the accessibility of music technology and the ability to share and spread the result online at a large scale makes for a completely different music scene. You can find a wealth of great producers on Soundcloud and people organically embrace what they enjoy instead of being limited to a small selection of music presented through traditional medias.
