Tez Cadey

Tell us about yourself and how you got into music?

I grew up in France and I’ve been producing under the name of Tez Cadey for 6 years now. I think it all started with my parents putting me to piano when I was a kid. I wasn’t a great player but it must have helped me somehow. I dropped the piano later on for the guitar. I was really into rock at the time. It’s seems ironic now but I used to hate electronic music.

Tell us about your track ‘Seve’

I made ‘seve’ a few years ago in autumn. It was getting cold and grey in my hometown and I wasn’t ready to give up summer. It took me a long time to finish the track. I tried to work with a few singers for the vocals but nothing came out of it. It was only a few months later I remembered this Tube & Berger track, ‘Free Tribe’, with this really cool sample from the African Children’s Choir. I tried it over the instrumental and we released the track the following year.

How did you start using FL Studio & what does it mean to your productions?

I started enjoying electronic music when a dj played some at a wedding. In just a few months I became obsessed with dance music. I tried to dj but I got bored really quickly. So I went for music production. I found out about fl studio through tutorials on youtube and I tried it out. I was hooked instantly.

I’ve tried other DAWs after that but none come close to it in terms of creativity and spontaneity. I think it really depends on your way of producing, but for me it was it. I spent hours experimenting on it, finding new ways to express my ideas and I still do today. The workflow and the plugins are just great.

Tell us about your production environment & toys?

I have a very minimalistic production environment. I use fl studio on a laptop, an Axiom pro MIDI keyboard, a pair of M-Audio speakers, and some AKG headphones. I don’t use any hardware, for now. I do record some guitar from time to time.

I think it’s important to have limited equipment when you produce. Or at least when you start off. It pushes you to explore different ways of doing.
