9 FLaunchpads Tested

Discuss this topic on the Image-Line ForumShare this topic on FacebookShare this topic on BloggerShare this topic on Digg July, 2012

FL Studio 10.5 introduced Performance Mode and it's proving to be a huge hit with customers. Image-Line's CTO, JMC, recently connected 9 x FLaunchpads and 6 x video monitors to FL Studio to do some 'stress testing'. We are happy to report everything worked perfectly and we thought you'd like to see a video, so here it is:

There are many ways to control Performance Mode, you can use one of the pad-style controllers including an Akai APC20/40, Hexler TouchOSC, Livid Block, liine (i)Lemur, Novation Launchpad, Native Instruments MASCHINE (& MIKRO), Traktor Kontrol F1, KORG padKONTROL or Korg nanoKONTROL II. Alternatively you can use any standard MIDI controller including keyboards, drum pads etc. You can even use the typing keyboard or a touch-screen directly on the Playlist (just make sure to download the FL Studio 10.6 beta for touch functions)

If you'd like to submit a Performance Mode video, feel free to drop one into our performance video thread here. BTW: If you are wondering what a FLaunchpad is, here's a close up of one below. They are functionally identical to the standard Novation Launchpad, so if 9 x FLaunchpads work simultaneously then so will 9 x Launchpads.

Enjoy!

Per Note Automation

Discuss this topic on the Image-Line ForumShare this topic on FacebookShare this topic on BloggerShare this topic on Digg

Why not take 2 minutes and 33 seconds to refresh your knowledge of per-note parameters and automation in FL Studio.

You can download the project in this video here

Notes and tips:

MOD X/Y - Plugins that support custom graphical mapping of MOD X/Y destinations: Harmor, Ogun, Slicex & Sytrus - Not just the filter, many other destinations are possible, especially in Harmor. MOD X/Y mappings also correspond to the XY pad (and X and Y knobs) on the plugins UI. Tweaking or automating these will shift all the corresponding per-note parameter values.

Plugins that map MOD X/Y to their filter cutoff and resonance: Harmless, Sampler, Granulizer, Fruity Slicer, 3XOSC,Fruit Kick, Wasp, Wasp XT, DX10, BeepMap, SimSynth. This does not work for VST Plugins, only FL Studio native format.

Slides - Place a slide note directly over a normal note to only side the value and not pitch. Also works with per note velocity to fade in and out for example. A slide note playing at the same time as multiple normal notes will slide all of them. But if you use a different note color for one of the normal notes and slide note, only that note will slide.

Score files - Save a score file with per note parameter settings and load it in the Quantize tool to apply them to other scores.

Enjoy

  • Multi-touch support - FL Studio (and some plugins) now respond to Multitouch on Windows 7 or higher.
  • BassDrum - BassDrum is a Kick/Bass percussion synthesizer with sample layering.
  • GrooveMachine Synth - By popular demand, the synth & FX section from Groove Machine now as an independent plugin.
  • Plugin picker - Right-click to open a plugin and its presets in the Browser.
  • Harmor - Now supports Komplexer WT wavetables & 'Map audio regions to keys' with auto-dump to score for Slicex like drum handling.
  • Debugging code - This version contains code to help us track any bugs deep in the code. When you close FL Studio you may see a pop-up window reporting things such as 'memory leaks'. If you see any of these messages please report here and let us know.
